What's On My Vanity

If you’ve lived in an apartment, you know the drill when it comes to bathrooms. Usually you share it with at least one other person, there’s one tiny cabinet underneath the sink, virtually zero counter space and if your really lucky, you get some sort of medicine cabinet behind the mirror.

Basically, storage is at a minimum while ‘stuff’ is at a maximum. When I was prepping to move into my current place, I knew I wanted a space to get ready for the day without being in someone else’s way or knocking holes in the drywall with my elbows when attempting to curl my hair.

The solution: setting up a vanity table in my bedroom’s cute little nook. The table was actually “gifted” to me by a previous roommate who was planning on throwing the little guy out of our second story window (shoutout Lexi). I wish I could say I saved it because it was a high quality piece of furniture but really, I was poor as $hit and it was free.

With a fresh paint job, I actually grew fond of my tiny table, wobbly right leg and all.

I topped it with a $15 antique wood mirror I got off of Facebook Marketplace and then after a particularly nice pay day decided to go all out and splurge on an amazing rattan chair from TJ Maxx (#noragrets) that I topped with a small white fur I already owned.

Finally, I used some glass jars I had on hand to store my loose products and brushes. My favorite part is that everything has a place, so my vanity always stays super organized, a feat that I would consider Mission Impossible in my teeny lil bathroom.

Now, lets get to the good stuff. Here are the products I couldn’t (and clearly don’t) live without.

Brushes: Sigma

Back in my early years of high school, I got really into beauty vloggers on YouTube. Not exaggerating when I say I watched Jaclyn Hill when she had maybe 10 videos and was a hardcore Lauren Curtis wannabe. Loren recommened these brushes and what Loz recommends, you buy.

I’ve had these brushes for years, and they still work great. They even came with a fancy leather sleeve to keep them in and a poster that I may or may not have hung up next to my mirror as a 16 year old that made me feel ~SuPer C0oL~. Buy Them Here

Foundation: L’Oreal Infallible ProMatte Foundation

I came across this product the way I come across all good things in fashion and beauty - by stealing it from my sister. Also, who else keeps 3 shades of the same foundation on hand at all times? My skin can go from sun-kissed to Gwen Stefani faster than you can spell b-a-n-a-n-a-s.

I even got asked on the 4thof July if I had gotten my makeup airbrushed. Not sure who gets their makeup airbrushed to go watch fireworks in the dark but I took it as a compliment either way. This stuff is amazing – go buy it. Buy it here

Concealer: LA Girl HD Pro Concealer

I came across this product through another favorite beauty YouTuber, Erin Scott. It was only $4.99 at Ulta so I figured it couldn’t hurt my bank account to much to try it. I’ve used much more expensive concealers than this one and I would still pick my LA Girl any day. A little goes a looooong way and it doesn’t turn cakey 2 hours in. Buy it here

Eyeliner: Revlon ColorStay Skinny Liquid Liner

I rarely leave my place without some sort of winged eyeliner, so a brush with a thin, tapered tip is a must. Revlon really kills it with this one. The liquid itself doesn’t require multiple coats and it also stays put. I’ve had problems with Covergirl eyeliner smudging or fading until thankfully I was converted to being a Revlon gal. Mascara: L’Oreal VOLUMINOUS Carbon Black

I actually happened upon this mascara at a local drugstore when I was in a rush and found it on the clearance shelf. Previously, I swore by the trusty Maybelline Great Lash (still do as a close second) but this one brings my stumpy lashes from Tyrion to Jamie on a scale of one to Lannister, so it takes the crown. Eyebrows: L’Oreal Brow Stylist Designer Eyebrow Pencil

Are we sensing a trend here? No, this is not a sponsored post, even though that would be pretty sick if it was. Hey @L’Oreal, have your people call my people and by my people I mean me. Jokes aside, L’Oreal is such an underrated drugstore brand. They have some high quality products and I’ll never hesitate to recommend them – even if they aren’t paying me to… yet. ;) Buy it here.

Setting Powder: Rimmel London Stay Matte Loose Powder

After using my LA Girl Concealer to highlight my under eyes, forehead, chin and nose, I set it with this loose powder. It’s nice because it keeps my face from looking like a BP oil spill by 1 pm and really what’s not to love about that? Buy it here

Bronzer: Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit

You probably already own this like 85% of the rest of the female population. So I’ll move on. Buy it here if you don't already have it.

Eyeshadow: Morphe 35O Nature Glow

Naked palettes have been my go to since about freshman year, and maybe thats just out of habit. I've got my eyes on the new Morphe 35O Nature Glow palette at Ulta. There are SO many shades of warm toned reds and browns that will make blue eyes like mine pop. Plus, its gotten insane reviews. Buy it here.

Lips: BUXOM Full On Lip Polish in Samantha and Celeste

When I say I have Kylie Jenner lips, I mean pre-puberty Kylie, not “Heyyyy Guyyyys, Buy My New Lip Kit” Kylie. I also have super dry lips (probably because I drink like 8 oz of water per week) so lipsticks or stains leave my lips looking flaky and cracked. Gross, I know. These lightly plumping, shimmery glosses are just what I need. Plus, they aren’t super sticky and have lasted longer than some of Kim’s marriages. Buy it here.

Blush: Halp

Here’s one I don’t feel confident sharing quite yet. I like Bare Minerals blushes, but for some reason just haven’t gotten around to repurchasing one after mine ran out. I look best in peachy pink tones, so if you have a favorite product that YOU swear by, let me know in the comments or on Insta! I’ll welcome a product recommendation sliding into my DMs any day.

Perfume: Wish by Lollia

When I ran out of my cheap TJ Maxx Jessica Simpson a couple months ago, I knew EXACTLY which scent I wanted to get next. When I was bartending in Auburn, I distinctly remembered a shift when one of my coworkers smelled so good I literally stopped punching numbers in the register to smell her. It was that good. Like a cloud of sugar cookies and honey suckles. And now I get to smell it on myself everyday. Thanks for not thinking I was a total weirdo, Ashley. Buy it here.
