Sweet and Sexy 4-Ingredient Maraschino Margaritas
While I agree it has become somewhat of a commercialized holiday, I still appreciate Valentine’s Day and it’s basic celebration of all things love. There are many things I love in this world; specifically tequila, cheese pulls, the “90s and Early 2000s Acoustic” playlist on Spotify, the Target Dollar Spot and Ryan, in that order.
Just kidding babe, you’re right after the cheese.
Since our anniversary falls just 3 days after V-Day (3 whole years already!), Ryan and I are opting for a more low key night in on the 14th. Instead of fighting for parking and reservations at somewhere swanky downtown, Ry volunteered to whip up something special for us at his place.
While he’ll be handling the cuisine, I’ll be crafting the cocktails.
Fun fact, I worked at a bar since I was 18. I started as a cocktail waitress and then became a bartender, serving at Martinis in Iowa City and Moe’s BBQ in Auburn. Let me tell you, you won’t have more fun or meet more people than you do when you work in a college-town bar. Also, tip your bartenders, people. They deal with a lot of shit. And saying this from personal experience, sometimes we literally deal with people’s shit.
Still have an appetite after that one? Good. Because I have one BOMB margarita recipe to share just in time for your Love Day celebrations.
Let me preface this recipe by saying I have very, very high standards for my margaritas. I don’t do the super sugary concoctions you see college freshman slamming in the local underaged watering hole. I prefer mine on the rocks, semi-clear and I shouldn’t feel like I have early onset diabetes three sips in. I take my tequila drinking seriously. So seriously I’ve been known to keep antacids in my purse in case the opportunity arises. (Don’t judge, I have the acid reflux of a morbidly obese geriatric)
But you know what they say,
So lets raise our salt rimmed glasses to love, tequila and 20% tips.
Jar of maraschino cherries
Let’s Get Down to Business (Makes 1 margarita)
Fill half of a metal shaker cup with ice. (Metal shakers work best, but if you don’t have one, you can stir the ingredients in whatever glass you’re going to be drinking out of.)
Pour in 1.5 shots of tequila (or just pour until your little tequila loving heart desires. Or less, if you can’t hang)
Squeeze the juice of half a lime into the shaker or cup
Add a spoonful of cherry juice from the jar
Top with a splash of Blueberry Lemonade
Place lid on shaker and shaker aggressively, (or just stir in your glass)
If using shaker - fill desired glass with ice. Strain margarita mixture over ice.
Garnish with cherries and fresh lime wedge. (Here’s a quick tutorial on the art of cutting limes)
If you want to salt or sugar the rim, simply run your lime wedge all the way around the rim of the glass, coating it in juice. Then dip in salt or sugar.
Tah-dah! Look at you, bartender. Enjoy this festive drink with your valentine, your galentines or your dog and your damn self! I also firmly believe a good bar tool set is an essential part of being a grown up. Shop a few of my favorites below:
